Desperate times call for desperate measures, and I have gotten desperate... again. My whole life I have struggled with oversleeping and not being able to get myself out of bed in the morning. Usually, I wake up as late as I can while still allowing myself just enough time to bang out my morning routine before I hit the road to get to work, but almost all week so far I have woken up at the exact time that I should be getting in my car and driving away. That's just not working for me, so we're making a big change, and I'm using this platform (and TikTok) for accountability.
So the plan is to do my own little challenge and document it on TikTok. I want to wake up at 6am for a number of days, but I'm not sure what that number should be: 7, 14, 30? Not sure. I'll probably start with 7 and reevaluate from there.
But I know from many, many, many, many, many failures that you can't just say you're going to wake up earlier and call that your whole plan. You have to know what you're going to do once your alarm goes off. First, I think I might start with a different alarm approach. I usually do one alarm, and then one more 15-30 minutes later because that used to work when I was in high school and early college, but it's not doing the trick anymore. While I was crying about my stuggles with this yesterday evening, my sister told me about an app called Alarmy, which might be the solution to my problem! With this app, you can set loud, attention-grabbing alarms, which will likely work better than what I have now. But that's not the main feature of the app. The kicker is that with this app (not sponsored at all btw... yet-- Alarmy hit me up) you can set a task that you need to complete in order to turn the alarm off. There are a few different options, some that are more cognitive and others that are more kinesthetic, depending on what you need. So I will definitely be giving this a try to help me with this challenge.
When my alarm goes off, I will immediately grab my phone and start documenting for TikTok. I know you aren't supposed to reach for your phone first thing in the morning, but it's a task for me to do right away and it's good for accountability too, so I'm doing it. Then my plan is to get outside immediately for two reasons. One is to get some sunlight in my eyes right away, which I heard is good for your circadian rhythym, and the other is to start moving. I have a circular driveway that I plan to take a few laps around to wake myself up. Then the rest is up to me! I'll actually have time to complete my whole morning routine without rushing through it.
So here's the plan:
Starting tomorrow, Friday, May 10th, I will be waking up at 6:00am for 7 days in a row. My alarm will go off at 6:00am and I will complete the Alarmy task to turn it off. I will then start recording myself to document my experience for TikTok and I will post a compilation of the 7 days on the last day, May 16th. After I record, I will head outside to take a few laps around the driveway, then come back inside and start getting ready for my day. I'm excited! Let's do this!
